Day 30: Portrait

This is a portrait of my friend Monique. These photographs are good portraits as I think the background contrasts and compliments the subject. I have to be careful to not add too much head room as that would make the photograph out of balance. The blossom falling behind Monique ads so much to the photograph and ultimately looks more professional. To improve this photograph I would try and add more elements into the portrait to make it more interesting or to tell a story
like the faceless portrait I did.

Day 30: Portrait

Day 29: Black and White

I decided to take a photograph of my bookshelf as this entry is black and white, like the saying, 'all there in black and white' it's all written down with ink on paper. I also made it black and white to make the outside of the book look like the inside. The implied lines made by the books draws the eye down the books and encourages the eye to read the spines. Unfortunately I could not get this photograph to follow the rule of thirds and that would be my improvement if I had to do this photograph again, I would fund some way of incorporating the rule of thirds into this photograph.

Day 29: Black and White

Day 28: Flowers

This is a close up photograph of fuchsia flowers. This particular photograph makes really good use of the rule of thirds. The contrasting colours between the pink and the green makes the plant very striking. This photograph has a shallow depth of field as the object in focus is close to the lens of the camera.

This is another photograph of a fuchsia flower but this time I took the photograph in portrait and this gave the photograph a whole different feel to it. It, like the previous photograph has a shallow depth of field and uses the rule of thirds effectively.

Day 28: Flowers

Day 27: Celebration

This is a photograph I took of the star on the tee at Christmas. I took it really close up but with a deeper focus so the focus is on the further side of the star. I purposely turned the flash in so the reflective-ness and metallic nature of the star will be emphasised, this is a result that I really like. The angles and lines of the star draw the eye into the centre of the photograph. This photo also uses the rule of thirds to its full potential.

This is a photograph of an advent candle at Christmas. The contrast between the yellow and the red background and the dim light gives the photograph a Christmassy atmosphere. I wanted the focus to be the flame on the candle and the drips of wax on the side of the candle. I really like this photograph as it has a real Victorian feel to it. This photograph also uses the rule of thirds.

The last picture is of my cat climbing the Christmas tree. I think this is a really striking photograph altogether. The pale and icy cat against the green plastic tree. This photograph uses the rule of thirds effectively. I think the sunlight makes the photograph look really professional. If I were to improve this photograph I would changed the background as I think that it distracts from the focus of the photograph.

Day 27: Celebration

Day 26: Close Up

These are the close ups of some costume jewellery that was passed down to me from my nan. I chose a blank white background so it will not distract form the subjects of the photograph, having a white background also meant that the colours of the subject stands out. I chose to use natural light on the necklaces to bring out all of the colours that cannot be seen with a flash on. The lines of the necklace coming from the corners of the photograph and leading down towards the centre of the photograph  draws the eye down the necklace. The shallow focus teamed with the rule of thirds makes for an effective photograph.

Day 26: Close Up

Day 25: Strangers

This is a photograph at the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebration and this was the queue to get in the actual exhibition. The lines of the barriers emphasise the perspective and the length of the queue, this also creates leading lines to draw the eye into the photograph. These photographs also use the rule of thirds effectively. If I were to improve this photograph I would crop out the barrier along the bottom as I think it detracts from the focus of the photograph.

Day 25: Strangers

Day 24: Animal

These are some photographs of some birds trying to get their babies to leave the nest. I really love these photos as I think they capture nature at its finest. I think that these photographs don't quite use the rule of thirds effectively and that is one improvement I would make with these pieces. I like the bright blue colours of the birds feathers contrast against the neutral browns and greens of the background and the tress.

Day 24: Animal

Day 23: Patterns

These are photographs of spider webs as they are interesting pattern created in nature. As webs are really fine and delicate it was hard to focus on them and it took a lot of time to get the photos how I wanted them. Which is why I tried again after it had been raining to take a photograph of the raindrops on the web. I think that the raindrops on the web makes the whole photograph look completely different and I like both for different reasons.

Day 23: Patterns

Day 22: Inspirational

This is my landscape of Central Park. This photograph works well because the bike in the middle of the scene is the focus and the layers of green grass, trees, skyscrapers and sky look really effective. I also think this is a good photograph also because it is clear it could not be anywhere else in the world. This photograph also uses the rule of thirds.

This is also a photograph from central park and the bright orange autumn trees were really striking against the blue sky. The dark brown branches of the trees leads the eye into the photograph. If I were to improve this photograph i would have tried to take the photograph that would include more sky so to make the most use of the contrasting colours.

This is the last photograph I took in central park of a water fountain with an angel statue. I found Central Park really inspiring as a place to visit. I really like the reflection of the statue in the water and the water captured in the air from the fountain. To improve this photograph I would try to take a photograph including all of the statue in the reflection as this would create a more effective symmetry and a better overall photograph.
